Croydon Climate Crisis Commission publishes report

In 2019, research by the Place-based Climate Action Network estimated that for Croydon to stay within its carbon budget it would need to deliver the majority of carbon cuts over the next ten years.

The analysis also showed that while Croydon could close the gap between its projected emissions in 2050 and a net-zero target by 61% through the adoption of options already available, more innovative options would be required to deliver the last 39%.

Climate commission meets for first time

Croydon’s ambition to become London’s greenest borough took another step forward as the independent Croydon Climate Crisis Commission held its first meeting.

Building on the Citizen’s Assembly on Climate Change, the commission was created to help the council achieve its aim of becoming carbon neutral by 2030 and help address the climate and ecological emergency the world faces

Croydon community comes together to launch Climate Crisis Commission

The Croydon Climate Crisis Commission, which will kick-start the borough’s move to be carbon neutral by 2030, launched on 12 March at Croydon College. The Commission has been started by Croydon Council, but will be fully independent.

Croydon Commission Chair appointed

Miatta Fahnbulleh, chief executive of the New Economics Foundation, has been announced as the first chair of the Climate Crisis Commission to help deliver a sustainable Croydon. The independent body has been set up to tackle the climate and ecological emergency and will draw on findings of a new citizens’ assembly on ways to lower the borough’s carbon footprint.
